Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is eligible to present?
A: All currently enrolled graduate students from any discipline or university. Preference will be given to graduate students who have already advanced to candidacy and done at least part of their dissertation research. We are interested more in presentations that are empirically grounded than meta-commentaries on disciplinary knowledge.

Q: I'm not a graduate student, can I still attend?

A: Of course! Everyone is welcome.

Q: Do you offer travel grants or financial assistance for this conference?
A: Unfortunately we do not. However, the conference is virtual and, as always, entirely free to attend.

Q: I can't attend the conference, can I zoom in?
A: Yes! The conference will be held entirely virtually, so travel to Santa Cruz will not be an issue.

Q: I am not a cultural anthropologist, can I still submit an abstract?
A: Absolutely! The conference planning committee is comprised of students in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology, and we welcome interdisciplinary scholarship. If you feel that your project meets the expectations and design of our conference discussed in our Call for Papers, please submit an abstract!

Q: When and where is the conference again?
A: Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 8:30 am-4 pm Pacific Time. All registered attendees should have received an email with the conference program (which contains the zoom information). If you have not, please contact us.

Q: Will UCSC Faculty be in attendance?
A: Yes. We work collaboratively with faculty to host this conference.
