Conference attendees are invited to participate in the (In)Constant Companions Photo Competition and the People’s Choice Awards. Submitted images will be displayed on the “(In)Constant Companions” website and in a slideshow during intersession breaks during the conference. All entries will be included in the People’s Choice Competition. 

 

The winning entry will be acknowledged on the “(In)Constant Companions” website and social media sites. Results of the People’s Choice Award for Best Photo will be announced during the conference. Carefully review the Photo Contest Call for Entries.

 

Deadline for the (In)Constant Companions Photo Competition is Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Application and Submission procedure is all online!

Procedures:

• To submit photos complete the downloadable Entry Form before Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

• A high-resolution digital copy (300 dpi minimum) of each entry, saved as a .jpg or .tif file format is required to facilitate posting to the website and other “(In)Constant Companions” digital media locations.

• File names of the submitted digital images must be labeled in the following format: 

  • your LAST name_Short Title (e.g., Smith_Birds of a Feather)

• Entries may be digitally enhanced. Digital enhancement is limited to color balance correction and brightness/contrast correction. The exception is artifact images, which can be modified to include a scale or similar.

• Permission to reproduce, display, or use any entry for the promotional purposes of the “(In)Constant Companions Conference” is assumed. No reproduction or display fee will be paid. No entry will be sold and requests for purchase will be referred to the entrant.

• A maximum of ten (10) images is allowed per conference attendee.

• Except for artifact images, each entry must be taken in the natural environment.

• There is no restriction on the prior publication of the photograph providing the entrant holds copyright or exhibition rights and posting to the (In)Constant Companions website is permitted

• There is no restriction on the date when the photo was taken.

• Entrants must obtain all appropriate permissions prior to submission of photographs. If you are not the photographer, you must have the permission of the photographer to enter. A copy of the permission must accompany the digital submission of the photo. If any person’s face is visible in the photograph, you must also have the subject’s permission to use their likeness.

• No photos of human remains will be accepted.

• Neither UCSC nor the (In)Constant Companions conference organizers assume responsibility for ensuring that appropriate permissions are obtained, including but not limited to talent releases, music, and iconographic imagery.

 

People’s Choice online voting at the (In)Constant Companions Photo Contest page will begin April 1, 2022 and continue through the end of the lunch break during the conference (keep an eye out for an email announcing the start of voting).

 

How to Submit Entries:

1. Email completed entry form, relevant permissions, and photos to ucscanthrogradconference@gmail.com

2. Please include your last name and photo contest in the message box (e.g., Smith  Photo Contest)

3. File size limits may require two or three uploads of individual images to complete the process.

4. If your work server limits file size attachments, use of Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox or other similar is acceptable. Email ucscanthrogradconference@gmail.com with link information.

 

Ethics, Non-Discrimination and Non-Harassment Statements, and Permission to Use

All entries will conform to the intent and purposes of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) ethics, non-discrimination, non-harassment statements. By submitting the entry form, the participant acknowledges and agrees to adhere to the statements of the AAA.  NO PHOTOS OF HUMAN REMAINS will be accepted.
