Submissions and Registration

Thank you for your interest in the conference!

Submission of Abstracts

A call for submissions is now open for 15-minute presentations related to anthropological companions, anthropologies of companionship, and other related topics. Each accepted presentation will be grouped into panel sessions with similar “companion” presentations. Possible panel sessions include: Multispecies, Environmental, & Ontological Companions; Socio-Political, Historical, & Colonial Companions; Biological, Evolutionary, & Medical Companions; Gendered, Sexual, & Reproductive Companions; Technological, Material, & Methodological Companions; and Sundry Companions (general session). Presentations will be given virtually via Zoom. Presentations can be synchronous or pre-recorded, but presenters are expected to be present on the zoom call during their session to respond to questions and comments. All pre-recorded talks must be sent to ucscanthrogradconference@gmail.com by 9 PM PST on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Graduate students in any discipline are encouraged to apply. Please include content warnings for all submissions, including paper and photo entries following guidelines outlined by the American Anthropological Association (e.g., violence, sexual content, human remains, self-harm, etc.).

As part of the conference, we will have a People’s Choice Award for Best Paper that will be voted on by attendees during the conference. The winning entry will be acknowledged on the “(In)Constant Companions” website and social media sites. Results of the People’s Choice Award for Best Paper will be announced at the end of the conference.

Abstracts of 250 words and brief author bios of 25-words are required for each proposed 15-minute presentation. In addition, suggestions for panel discussants are welcomed.  Abstracts should be submitted through our conference Presentation Abstract Form, no later than Monday, February 21, 2022. Decisions on the conference program will be made in early March and will be communicated via email. If your abstract is accepted for inclusion in the program, you will be expected to provide a paper draft at least 2 weeks in advance of the conference (due April 16), to facilitate the work of the discussant. If you experience difficulty using these forms, or have any further questions, please email the Conference Planning Committee at (ucscanthrogradconference@gmail.com).
